Palmetto Builders Show- April 26-27th 2013
The Charleston Home Builders Association is proud to announce the inaugural Palmetto Builder’s Show!
The Palmetto Builder’s Show presented by James Hardie Building Products, April 26th and 27th at the Charleston Area Convention Center, is designed to create a working environment between builders, remodelers, architects, engineers, vendors, suppliers and manufacturers. The Palmetto Builder’s Show is the only trade show in South Carolina to focus solely on supporting industry relationships and building collaboration among professionals.
This event is only for builders, remodelers, architects, engineers and their clients. The event will host over 1,500 of these key industry professionals- invited from South Carolina, Georgia, North Carolina and other surrounding areas. This event is geared to interest out-of-town invitees, capitalizing on Charleston’s beautiful scenery and natural appeal, while also giving attendees a taste of the local homebuilding community’s best products and services. In-town invitees will also enjoy the show, without the hassle of having to travel outside the state.

Mary Ruth Whitmire Moore
On behalf of the members and staff at the HBA of Greenville we would like to express our sincerest condolences to active Builder member and past President, Wayne Moore on the death of his mother Mary Ruth Whitmire Moore. Mary Moore, 85, widow of Harold Loyd Moore, of Greenville, died November 17, 2012, at her residence in the presence of her family and friends.
Born in Bostic, NC on September 21, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Harold Dean and Mary Jewel Freeman Whitmire. Mrs. Moore was a graduate of Welcome High School, Class of 1944. She completed two years of training at Draughons Business College. She was employed by W.A. Chandler, Realtor and Insurance, and later by Hughen and Douglas Company. She was co-founder/owner, Vice-President and Secretary of Harold Moore Builder, Inc. since 1971.
As an active lifetime member of Welcome Baptist Church, Mrs. Moore served in multiple teaching positions in the Sunday School and Women's Missionary Union departments of the church, where she spent countless hours reading, studying, and preparing for upcoming lessons. Mrs. Moore also served as the church historian and enjoyed being a member of the Greenville Christian Women's Club.
Mary and Harold were married on June 9, 1956, and they celebrated 50 years of marriage prior to his passing on February 24, 2007.
Surviving are son, Wayne Harold Moore and wife, Kristina Mauldin Moore, and two grandchildren, Claudia Gayle Moore and Nathan Harold Moore.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Doris Nichols, and an infant brother.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 19, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The Funeral Service will be held at noon on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at the funeral home. Burial to follow the service in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The Nina Burns Loving Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Welcome Baptist Church Boiler Fund, 2730 Anderson Rd., Greenville, SC 29611; Meals on Wheels, 15 Oregon St., Greenville, SC 29605; or Open Arms Hospice, 1836 W. Georgia Rd., Simpsonville, SC 29680.

Addison Homes- EarthCraft Gold Project of the Year Award Winner.
Addison Homes, a member of the HBA of Greenville , was recognized at this years EarthCraft Celebration of Excellence and received the EarthCraft Gold Project of the Year Award. Addison Homes was honored for a Punctatum Place mountain retreat atop Caesars Head. Built in 2011, the home blended 1930's aesthetic with the latest energy-smart features including ultra-efficient design and ENERGY STAR- rated systems, appliances and fixtures.
EarthCraft was founded in 1999 by Southface and the Greater Atlanta HBA- and is a regional green building certification program. The program is designed to promote energy-efficient, healthy, comfortable and durable new construction and renovation for single- and multi-family homes.
The event was hosted by Southface and the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association,and recognized 17 industry leaders in the Southeast for projects completed in 2012 and 2012.

Greenville MSA makes the Improving Markets Index for the sixth consecutive month
Anderson makes the list for the first time in November
For the sixth straight month, the Greenville MSA (Greenville, Laurens, and Pickens counties) made the NAHB/First American Improving Markets Index (IMI). The list of U.S. housing markets showing measurable and sustained improvement rose by 22 to include 125 metros in November. This number includes representatives from 38 states and the District of Columbia, up from 32 states in October. One other city from South Carolina made the list: Anderson.
"Greenville's inclusion on the Improving Markets Index is testimony to the solid improvements our housing market has made in the last year," Robert Markel, CGR, President of the Home Builders Association of Greenville, said. This marks a third consecutive monthly gain for the index.
The index identifies metropolitan areas that have shown improvement from their respective troughs in housing permits, employment and house prices for at least six consecutive months. That means Greenville has been improving for a full year. Markets added to the list in November include such geographically diverse locations as San Diego, Calif.; Gainesville, Fla.; Omaha, Neb.; Louisville, Ky.; and Charlotte, N.C.
“Not only did 22 additional markets qualify for the improving list in November, but the geographic distribution of included metros expanded from 33 states to 38 (plus the District of Columbia), while 97 out of 103 markets retained their spots on the list from the previous month,” observed Barry Rutenberg, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and a home builder from Gainesville, Fla. “This shows that a housing recovery is firmly taking root and helping generate needed jobs and economic growth across much of the country -- though we know that this expansion could be even stronger were it not for ongoing challenges including overly tight lending conditions and difficult appraisals.”
“The solid increase in the number of improving housing markets this month illustrates the degree to which the housing recovery has gained momentum since we initiated the IMI last year,” noted NAHB Chief Economist David Crowe. “Compared to the 30 markets that made the list as of November 2011, we now have 125, which is about one-third of all the markets surveyed for this index.”
“This new high point for the Improving Markets Index provides the latest evidence that housing has turned a corner due to rising demand from consumers who are increasingly confident about the direction of local home values,” said Kurt Pfotenhauer, vice chairman of First American Title Insurance Company.
The IMI is designed to track housing markets throughout the country that are showing signs of improving economic health. The index measures three sets of independent monthly data to get a mark on the top improving Metropolitan Statistical Areas. The three indicators that are analyzed are employment growth from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, housing price appreciation from Freddie Mac and single-family housing permit growth from the U.S. Census Bureau. NAHB uses the latest available data from these sources to generate a list of improving markets. A metropolitan area must see improvement in all three measures for at least six consecutive months following those measures’ respective troughs before being included on the improving markets list.
A complete list of all 125 metropolitan areas currently on the IMI, and separate breakouts of metros newly added to or dropped from the list in November, is available at www.nahb.org/imi.
