On Friday, November 11, a couple of our contractors and some Clemson students gathered to help mend a fence and build a gate for Thrive Upstate's Generous Garden. This is the second project that the Community Service Committee has helped Thrive Upstate with. Thank you to Tuck Williams of Homes of Hope and Eddie Howard of Howard Custom Builders for leading the way and to our Clemson students Derek Ryan, Adrian Bordon, Morgan Guarner, and William Hosenfeld for volunteering.

Your Home Builders Association of Greenville's Community Service Committee teamed up with Rebuild Upstate last Saturday for a day of service. GBS Building Supply donated the lumber needed for our volunteers to build a ramp for an elderly Greenville man so that he can access his home safely. Thank you to GBS and our wonderful volunteers, including project leader Andrew Woodford of A.B.W. Construction, Johannes Erdmann of A.B.W. Construction, Craig DeLisle of Lauren Homes of S.C., Eddie Howard of Howard Custom Builders, Jon Statom of Palmetto Exterminators, Courtney Smith-Gonzalez of D.R. Horton, and Connie Vaun of DHI Mortgage.

HBA and Rebuild Upstate Partner to Help a Greenville Resident

On June 18th, your Home Builders Association and Rebuild Upstate will partner to help build a ramp for an elderly man in Greenville. At this time we are looking for volunteers and materials to be donated at the residence on June 17th. Below is the list of materials needed. Thank you to Andrew Woodford, APR, of A.B.W. Construction and Eddie Howard, APB, of Howard Custom Builders for their volunteerism this past Saturday. Thrive Upstate, a local agency working to provide services and support for individuals with special needs and disabilities in the Upstate, has a large garden on their property with a fence, but they needed a gate to enclose the garden. Andrew and Eddie loaned their expertise to help build and install the gate for Thrive Upstate's garden. Your Home Builders Association is proud and grateful to have such generous members.

This past Saturday, January 9, was a wonderful day for our Community Service Committee, Rebuild Upstate, and especially for one of our Greenville neighbors. Ms. Ruthie Jones is an elderly woman whose home was in need of repair and rejuvenation. Andrew Woodford, APB, of ABW Construction, donated his time and tools to lead our team of volunteers in repairing Ms. Ruthie's stairs and building her a ramp. McGee Brothers will also be stopping by Ms. Ruthie's home this week to pour a concrete path from her driveway to her new ramp. Thank you to both companies for their donations and to all of our wonderful volunteers for their hard work.

Although it was cloudy, the weather was mild and the rain held off long enough for us to complete the project and enjoy each other's company.

Rebuild Upstate and HBA to Rehabilitate a Clemson Home, January 9

On January 9, 2016 your Home Builders Association is working with Rebuild Upstate to repair and rehabilitate a family's home in Greenville. We are looking for volunteers to do the work, as well as material donated to help fray the cost. Please contact Crystal Yanes at (864) 254-0133 or cyanes@hbaofgreenville.com if you are interested in donating or volunteering.

Description of Work: Repair front steps; build ramp off back porch with concrete sidewalk to driveway; HVAC ducts need re-wrapping; replace toilet and sink in master bath.

Background: Ms. Jones is a 70 year old woman with severe arthritis and cancer She has  hard time getting around, and no funds due to medical treatments and fixed income to spend on repairs on her trailer. The handrails on her front step are not secured well, and the treads are mildewy and slippery. She would benefit from a ramp out of her back door, her duct work needs to be re-wrapped, and her toilet and sink need to be replaced. With these repairs, we will give her a safer and more sustainable place to live.

Meals on Wheels Needs Volunteers and Substitutes

Meals on Wheels is looking for more volunteers to deliver meals to the senior community in the Greater Greenville Area. If you are interested in participating, you can get involved through the HBA. Our members on the Community Service Committee have formed a team that drives a route every week, delivering hot meals to those in need.

Come to our Committee Interest Meeting on Thursday at 4:30 at the HBA office if you would like to hear about more opportunities with the Community Service Committee as well as the other committees within the HBA. We will give a brief description of each committee's purpose and hear from some of the chairs. To see a list of our current committees, click here.

From Meals on Wheels:

"We are incredibly grateful for our volunteers who come day in and day out to deliver meals to our clients, rain or shine. However we understand life happens and substitutes are needed to fill in last minute. If you are a regular volunteer, please do your best to find someone who can take your route for you. If they've never delivered with you before, we are happy to walk them through it so they feel comfortable!

And consider being a substitute! Each Thursday we send out an email with open route for the following week...simply reply based on your schedule and help us out. You can take your regular route or try something new! Email vvanvick@mowgvl.org to get added to the list!"

Your HBA Community Service Committee completes a Rebuild Upstate project.

Your HBA of Greenville's Community Service Committee accepted a project with Rebuild Upstate (formerly ReWiGo) to help a family in the Pelzer area.  The project was completed on Saturday, June 27th and the HBA of Greenville would like to thank everyone that came out to help.
The group removed and replaced the flooring in both bathrooms and also replaced parts of the ceiling in several rooms.

Community Service Committee Project, June 27th

 

Your HBA of Greenville's Community Service Committee needs your help. The committee has accepted a project with Rebuild Upstate (formerly ReWiGo) to help a family in the Pelzer area.  The project will require 10-12 volunteers. The work day will be held Saturday, June 27th from 8-3p.m.
Here are the project details:

Description of Work: Flooring/ Ceiling replacement

Background: Dianne and Lloyd wicks are 64 and 68 years old respectively. They have recently taken guardianship over two little boys from family friends who have drug problems. They are Max (4) and BradLee (2). Lloyd was able to do these kinds of repairs on his own. He was replacing the roof that caused the ceiling damage when he fell off the roof and broke his hip and legs. He has not fully recovered from that. His grandson helped him finish the roof, but the ceiling still needs to be repaired, and the floors are getting soft in two of the bathrooms. With the two little boys it can be dangerous for them to go into these rooms.

●     Water, snacks, and lunch will be provided. 
●     All tools and materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring a measuring tape, gloves, tool belt, and cordless drill, if you have them.
