HBA of Greenville recognizes the Political Action Committee (PAC) Donations

With the elections around the corner and all hype surrounding it. The HBA of Greenville would like to thank the members who contributed at the donor level and higher to the Political Action Committee. Silver Hammer donors are Graham Proffitt and Rick Quinn. Bronze Hammer donors are Joseph Hoover and Lou Hutchings. Please keep in mind that with out your dollars going to the PAC some of the National, State, County, and City regulations could have been more harmful to the building industry.
Some of the things your local SC Builders PAC has done for you include:

• Construction GL insurance- supported a bill that protects against faulty construction claims.
• Fire Sprinkler Bill- stopped the mandate of residential fire sprinklers
• Permit Extension Bill- Passed a bill that temporarily extends the term of permits.

Keep in mind that these "wins" have saved the housing industry millions of dollars and please remember that the HBA of Greenville does have a Government affairs Committee, email Michael Dey at MDey@hbaofgreenville.com for more information or if you would like to become involved.

Primary Elections are Today; Read the Builder Ballot

Today is Primary Election Day in South Carolina.  Candidates from the Republican and Democrat Parties compete today for nomination to run in the General Election in November.

South Carolina Builders Political Action Committee is the method by which members of the Home Builders Association of Greenville work together to elect pro-housing candidates to the various elected offices.  HBA members contribute voluntarily to SCBPAC.  The Legislative Committee of the HBA of Greenville interviewed various candidates, and the Board of Directors made the final decision on who would receive support.

The following are the candidates who have been supported by S.C. Builders PAC:

Senate District 6: Senator Mike Fair in the Republican Primary
Senate District 7: Representative Karl Allen in the Democrat Primary
Senate District 8: Ross Turner in the Republican Primary
Greenville County Council District 20: Councilman Sid Cates in the Republican Primary
Greenville County Council District 21: Councilman Jim Burns in the Republican Primary
Greenville County Council District 22: Councilman Bob Taylor in the Republican Primary

Annual Chili Cook Off and Oyster Roast raises money for PAC

The annual Chili Cook Off and Oyster Roast helped raised needed money for S.C. Builders PAC this week.

More than 60 members and guests judged the annual chili cook off contest, played the game "corn hole," and enjoyed steamed oysters prepared by Clark's Services.

Special thank you to Deana Long of Carter Lumber Company, who raised $100 selling tickets for the PAC 50/50 Raffle.

This year's event was held in the Atrium and on the patio at the TD Convention Center.

S.C. Builders PAC is a cooperative Political Action Committee managed by the Home Builders Association of South Carolina.  Local HBAs throughout South Carolina raise funds for the PAC.  PAC funds are used to support candidates for public office who support housing and home building.  PAC contributions are voluntary. The association's Legislative Committee screens candidates for office and recommends contributions to the association's Board of Directors.  Candidates for statewide office are further screened by a Board of Trustees made up of representatives from each of the local HBAs across the state.

About the Chili Cook Off

The Annual Chili Cook Off is anticipated by members all year. HBA members and friends compete for the best chili, enjoy steamed oysters, an assortment of sides and desserts, and adult beverages.

The chili will be judged by attendees to the event for the winner of the coveted "People's Choice Award" for the best chili. Participants "purchase" votes on their favorite chili for $1 per vote, and all of the money will benefit the PAC. As they say in Chicago, vote early and often!

New this year will be the "Top Hot" award, judged by one of our local elected officials.

Elected officials from around the Upstate have been invited to attend.

First Annual Corn Hole Tournament

Also new this year will be the first annual Corn Hole Tournament. You know the game: toss a corn bag from 27 feet away into a small hole. Teams will enter to earn the top prize: The Corny! All entry fees will benefit the PAC.
