Milestone Custom Homes will construct the welcome center and model home in the new Hartness Community on the east side of Greenville. Milestone is one of four Approved Professional Builders in the Hartness Builder’s Guild, which includes Hollison Custom Homes, Dillard-Jones Builders, and Stoneledge Properties.
The Hartness Community is a 440 acre development near SC14 and Roper Mountain Road. The community will feature 180 acres of green space, 15 miles of trails connecting woodlands, lakes, streams, wildlife and shared recreational areas. Also included will be a clubhouse and wellness center, a resort-styled swimming pool, and a sports garden.

Dillard-Jones moves its headquarters to downtown Greenville and opens second office in Asheville
Dillard-Jones Builders LLC said it relocated its Greenville headquarters to 115 N. Brown St. in downtown Greenville and opened a second office in Asheville.
Founded in 2004, the company previously maintained its home office in east Greenville.
In March, Dillard-Jones received a license to build homes in Georgia. It’s also licensed in South Carolina and North Carolina. Its second office in Asheville is at 1 Page Ave. downtown.
“Ours is a creative business and we were able to find great office space in the downtown areas of Greenville and Asheville that reflect the creativity and style of our company,” Dillard-Jones President Tom Dillard said in a news release. “We’re excited to be a part of such high-energy areas.”

Blu-Sky Group formed by Dillard and Vass
Greenville business owners and HBA members Thomas Dillard and Kathy Vass have formed a new Greenville-based real estate company. Blu-Sky Group LLC is a real estate development, marketing and sales firm that focuses on residential and commercial properties.
Dillard is president of Dillard-Jones Builders LLC. Vass is president of Vass Markets Inc., a marketing and public relations firm.
Blu-Sky Group is representing The Ridges at Paris Mountain, a new 18-residence master planned community on Altamont Road that features views of the city of Greenville on the development’s south side and the Blue Ridge Mountains on its north side. The Ridges at Paris Mountain has been selected as the site of the 2014 Southern Living Showcase Home by Dillard-Jones Builders, which will open next spring.

GREENVILLE, SC - The Cottage Group LLC/A Dillard-Jones Co. is building the All American Cottage, a 2,400-square-foot classic style home that will open for public tours May 2-19 at Ruskin Square in Hollingsworth Park.
Approximately 97% of the products used in the construction of the All American Cottage are made in the United States. Interior finishes include many American-made products such as Wellborn Cabinets, a project sponsor. The home will be featured in the July issues of Southern Living and This Old House, and on magazine websites.
"As a former manufacturing guy, I've seen first hand the results of taking a raw material to a finished product that is sold in the open market. Manufacturing means jobs, and a lot of them. After almost a decade in the custom home building business, I have seen a decline in U.S. construction jobs - a lot of it due to the use of materials and products made somewhere other than the United States," said Tom Dillard, president of The Cottage Group LLC. "When I saw the news coverage on Montana homebuilder Anders Lewendal and his commitment to build a home with materials made in the USA, I was inspired to try it myself, especially after reading that the use of just 5% of USA-made materials in the construction of a new home means 220,000 jobs. Jim Brophy Joins Dillard-Jones Builders
Brophy recently retired from Caterpillar Inc. after a 40-year career serving in various executive positions including product manager, operations director, plant manager, and managing director of a Caterpillar subsidiary in Europe. His experience includes design and development of Caterpillar earthmoving and agricultural products, as well as production processes and customer support of those products.
Most recently a resident of Raleigh NC, Brophy now resides in The Cliffs at Keowee Falls in a Dillard-Jones home completed in 2008.

Sothern Home and Garden Show Booths Take Home Ribbons

More than 300 booths made this year's Southern Home and Garden Show a success even before the doors opened at 12 noon on Friday. Several exhibitors went all out and built booths that are worthy of awards.
A team of judges viewed every booth shortly before the home show opened and judges the booths in three categories:
- Creativity
- Outdoor Living
- Technology
In addition, a Best of Show was awarded.

Among the winners, they liked the creative use of a 10x10 by Palmetto Specialties, the way the Dillard-Jones booth invites visitors inside the booth, the attention to detail of the Carolina Heating Service and Heirloom Stair & Iron booths, and the use of reused materials in the Green Hill Landscape booth.

By now I hope you have read or heard about your HBA of Greenville's latest community service project and contribution to our community. Earlier this month your HBA of Greenville and many of our members unveiled a brand new kitchen for a retired U.S. Marine who was wounded in Iraq.
In September of 2006, Marine Sgt. Michael Batton was deployed to Ramadi, Iraq, where he served as a headquarters platoon sergeant. During a mortar attack in December of that year, Batton sustained a traumatic brain injury. Sgt. Batton now lives in Mauldin with his family. Their home is comfortable, but their kitchen was not.
A team of HBA members led by Dillard-Jones Renovations LLC gutted the kitchen and replaced it with a more open, functional plan with a tile floor, granite countertops, ample cabinets, stainless steel appliances and recessed lighting. Dillard-Jones Renovations provided design and renovation services and HBA member companies donated products and services to make the $60,000 project possible.
I would like to thank these member companies for their support and contributions to this outstanding project to a truly deserving family: The Cook's Station, GBS Building Supply, Old Castle Surfaces, Builders First Source, Progress Lighting, Sherwin Williams, Greer Flooring Center, and Gateway Supply Company. Dillard-Jones Builders Announces 2012 Southern Living Showcase Home
Dillard-Jones Builders has announced its 2012 Southern Living Showcase Home now under construction in The River Reserve Phase Four. Presented by River Reserve Holdings LLC and Builders First Source, the 2012 Showcase Home will open to the public for four weekends in May.
The 2012 Southern Living Showcase Home will be the fourth Southern Living tour home presented by Dillard-Jones Builders. The company’s 2008 Showcase Home in Tuscany Falls and the 2010 Showcase Home in Claremont won the Upstate homebuilder 2009 and 2011 Southern Living Builder of the Year honors. The 2009 award marked the first time a South Carolina builder had won the prestigious national award, and in 2011 Dillard-Jones became the first two-time winner in the 18-year history of the Southern Living Custom Builder Program. The company has a full-page Builder of the Year feature in the Dec. 2011 issue of Southern Living magazine, which is now on newsstands.
A Dillard-Jones custom design, the 2012 Southern Living Showcase Home is a basement plan featuring approximately 5,000 heated square feet and more than 1,200 square feet of outdoor living space that takes advantage of the river front lot. The 2012 Southern Living Showcase Home will be the fourth Southern Living tour home presented by Dillard-Jones Builders. The company’s 2008 Showcase Home in Tuscany Falls and the 2010 Showcase Home in Claremont won the Upstate homebuilder 2009 and 2011 Southern Living Builder of the Year honors. The 2009 award marked the first time a South Carolina builder had won the prestigious national award, and in 2011 Dillard-Jones became the first two-time winner in the 18-year history of the Southern Living Custom Builder Program. The company has a full-page Builder of the Year feature in the Dec. 2011 issue of Southern Living magazine, which is now on newsstands.
A Dillard-Jones custom design, the 2012 Southern Living Showcase Home is a basement plan featuring approximately 5,000 heated square feet and more than 1,200 square feet of outdoor living space that takes advantage of the river front lot. Annual Chili Cook Off and Oyster Roast raises money for PAC
The annual Chili Cook Off and Oyster Roast helped raised needed money for S.C. Builders PAC this week.
Partners who helped make the Chili Cook Off possible include:
More than 60 members and guests judged the annual chili cook off contest, played the game "corn hole," and enjoyed steamed oysters prepared by Clark's Services.
Special thank you to Deana Long of Carter Lumber Company, who raised $100 selling tickets for the PAC 50/50 Raffle.
This year's event was held in the Atrium and on the patio at the TD Convention Center.
S.C. Builders PAC is a cooperative Political Action Committee managed by the Home Builders Association of South Carolina. Local HBAs throughout South Carolina raise funds for the PAC. PAC funds are used to support candidates for public office who support housing and home building. PAC contributions are voluntary. The association's Legislative Committee screens candidates for office and recommends contributions to the association's Board of Directors. Candidates for statewide office are further screened by a Board of Trustees made up of representatives from each of the local HBAs across the state.

About the Chili Cook Off
The Annual Chili Cook Off is anticipated by members all year. HBA members and friends compete for the best chili, enjoy steamed oysters, an assortment of sides and desserts, and adult beverages.
The chili will be judged by attendees to the event for the winner of the coveted "People's Choice Award" for the best chili. Participants "purchase" votes on their favorite chili for $1 per vote, and all of the money will benefit the PAC. As they say in Chicago, vote early and often!
New this year will be the "Top Hot" award, judged by one of our local elected officials.
Elected officials from around the Upstate have been invited to attend.
First Annual Corn Hole Tournament
Also new this year will be the first annual Corn Hole Tournament. You know the game: toss a corn bag from 27 feet away into a small hole. Teams will enter to earn the top prize: The Corny! All entry fees will benefit the PAC.

Four HBA of Greenville Members Take Home Statewide Pinnacle Awards
Four member companies of the HBA of Greenville won Pinnacle Awards during the HBA of South Carolina's Annual meeting this week in Myrtle Beach.
- Dillard-Jones Builders won the Pinnacle Award for The Evergreen in the category Best Single Family Detached Home with an average sales price of $500,000 to $750,000.
- Allora won the Pinnacle Award for a private residence in The Cliffs in the category Best Single Family Detached Home with an average sales price of $1 million to $1.5 million.
- Resort Custom Homes won the Pinnacle Award for The Player Residence in the category Best Single Family Detached Home with an average sales price of $2 million to $4 million

Dillard-Jones Builders Named 2011 Southern Living Builder Of The Year
Dillard-Jones Builders LLC has been named the 2011 Southern Living Builder of the Year by the magazine’s Custom Builder Program – the only company in the program’s 18-year history to receive the award twice. Dillard-Jones was the 2009 Southern Living Custom Builder of the Year, which marked the first time a South Carolina home builder had won the prestigious national award.The Southern Living Custom Builder Program is an invitation-only network of more than 100 custom home builders throughout the South. Members are selected based on: their reputation among local businesses and consumers; strength of presence in their respective markets; superior quality and attention to detail; and innovative style. Builders are required to re-apply each year and are evaluated by Southern Living to assure they have met the standards.
A member of the Southern Living Custom Builder Program since 2007, Dillard-Jones Builders received the 2011 Builder of the Year award for its successful presentation of the 2010 Southern Living Showcase held November 5 through December 19 in Greenville’s Claremont community. The award was presented during the Southern Living Builder Conference held February 25-26 at Wild Dunes Resort near Charleston.
